My Anastasia Beverly Hills Treats! *GIVEAWAY*

Anastasia only has to upload an image of a new make-up product launching on their Instagram and automatically it’s on my wish list! The quality of Anastasia Beverly Hills products are just beautiful and are at a high quality standard for my professional make-up kit. Above are some of my favourite new items from Anastasia! I also have a treat for my followers today- A chance to WIN the NEW Maya Mia palette, Waterproof Crème Colour Eyeliner and Liner brush!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Book (The contour book is made for promotional use only. All of the shades will be sold individually online)

There are 27 refill shades to choose from in the original Contour Kit were 6 different shades, so there are 21 new shades released.

This Contour book contains powders for contouring, highlighting and colour correcting to even out skintones with various concerns such as discolouration. I have also been using them for eye shadows for creating subtle eye looks!

The individual Contour Refills will only be available from Anastasia Online at the moment shipping globally!  Each refill colour is $14.00 (£8.30) and can be placed in the Generic Face palette pictured above. The pans are magnetic so you can switch them up or replace them anytime you want.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Maya Mia Palette, Waterproof Crème Eyeliner & Liner brush

A stunning palette I have used at least 5 times since receiving this palette! The palette was created in collaboration with Maya Janeska (@maya_mia_y from Instagram).

This palette contains ten shades that coordinate together to create various neutral and bold looks. There are matte and shimmery shades which can be worn wet or dry. Inside the palette you will also find five ‘Get The Look” cards, a good-sized mirror and a dual-ended brush.

The new waterproof crème colour gel eyeliner in shade Jet , $18 ( £11.00) is super pigmented! It’s the perfect waterproof colour for the eyes that won’t crease or smudge. Dark liner along the upper and lower inner rims of the eyes is a quick and simple way to give eyes a sexy mystique look.  I love using the waterproof crème liner to line the upper inner waterline to make upper lashes look thicker without looking made up. But even with the best liners transfer happens, however with Anastasia making this product waterproof it ensures no transfer happens throughout the day!  Again the waterproof crème colour eyeliner is only available from Anastasia online shipping globally.

Illamasqua’s New Collection ‘Once’…

It was such a pleasure meeting up with the Illamasqua PR girls & other beauty bloggers a few weeks ago for afternoon tea in London. It was a chance to be introduced to the new Once collection over tea and scones as well as having a chance to ask questions about the new collection, future collections and what products Illamasqua will be keeping in the near future and what will be discontinuing.Thankfully they informed me they will always have their amazing Skin bases in their range, my favourite foundation in my kit!

On Friday, Illamasqua released the NEW collection called Once online.

"Once is the beauty of the burnished, eroded and erudite. A palette inspired by the gentle and exquisite point when a flower starts to fade and becomes impossibly beautiful in its complex decline. Combined with the subtle opulence of faded gilt layers that reveal themselves the more you blend and search. She is an incandescent moment, a poem alive and a light within a pallet of decaying decadence." Alex Box, Creative Director for Illamasqua

What’s in the NEW Once Collection?

  • Three shades of NEW Vintage Metallix Eye Shadow, £16.50 each (Courtier - dusky rose, Embellish - rich cocoa, Bibelot - rustic golden teal)

A long-lasting, metallic cream-gel with a smudge-resistant finish.

A soft neutral pink.

  • Two new shades of Sheer Gloss, £16.50 each (Exquisite - pink oyster, Opulent - rainbow beige)

Best worn over the top of bold lipsticks for a multi-tonal look.

A gorgeous soft, dusky antique teal green filled with gold and pink flakes giving it a multi-dimensional look

Have you treated yourself this weekend to the NEW Once Collection?

How I De-Stress When Not Working as a Make-up Artist

Some of my followers would of read the news of my pregnancy announcement! if not I am excited to announce I will be a first time Mom this December. Me and my Fiancé are so excited. I have been keeping this a secret of mine the last few months and been concentrating on balancing work life, home life and making sure I stay healthy, fit and de-stressed. I wanted to share my tips on how I de-stress when not being a busy make-up artist…

Exercise:

I try and exercise as much as I can when not working to help me reduce stress. Running is a great way to raise levels of the stress hormone, cortisol and I love walking, swimming or doing pregnancy yoga as they are better than an intense session at the gym for me. When exercising my Nike Free 4.0 Flyknits are designed to let my feet move more freely when running and exercising,  crafted with a black textile upper that fits around your foot like a sock, the Flyknit helps your muscles to do more work than demanded with usual running shoes!

Reading:

Reading not only acts as a distraction for me, it actively engages my mind!  When full attention is given to my favourite book I am reading, my mind doesn’t think about those things that are causing me to stress. I enjoy reading a library of make-up books. This way I can refresh my skills, build upon a skill I already have and at the same time feel inspired to get creative with make-up. I have three books I can’t stop reading at the moment. They are; The Art of Male Make-up by David Horne, Mark Bowles & Spob O Brien. Fashions in Make-up by Richard Corson & Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin.

Sketching:

Doing creative activity such as make-up mood boards, experimenting with make-up , sketching my  ideas or designing my make-up looks on a Karla Chart relieves stress for me,  increase feelings of happiness, and helps boost my immune system getting me ready for my next make-up jobs.

Healthy Eating:

Your diet can influence your body emotional and physical. I have cut down on caffeine, sugar, and most certainly not drinking alcohol at the moment. Some great foods for de-stressing which are rich in magnesium is porridge with almonds for breakfast, green vegetables, seeds, whole grains and eating plenty of green, red, orange, yellow, purple, and white fruits and vegetables which ensures that me and my baby are getting a variety of nutrients.

Pampering:

If your skin is under stress you need to change your beauty routine and take time to pamper yourself. To energise your skin during stress, you need to use products which will boost the skin and alleviate the signs of stress, tiredness and ageing. Ensure your skin care products include vitamins A, C and antioxidants. My two essential skin products at the moment are Perricone MD Chloro Plasma which is an Anti ageing mask for instant radiance & Photo Plasma to keep my skin moisturised and oil free. There’s nothing better than putting your feet up and pampering yourself with a face mask and facial!

Time with loved ones:

My favourite de-stress of all! I love Catching up with friends over dinner and shopping. It’s a great way to de-stress. By talking with them and hearing what they’ve been up to and in turn sharing what you’ve been doing, gives you sense of being loved and overall feeling of happiness. I always make time with my fiancé regularly, it’s a quick way to de-stress, have fun and enjoy the simpler things in life.

Sometimes it’s important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it’s essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow. ~Douglas Pagels, These Are the Gifts I’d Like to Give to You

My Hair Transformation…

Going back many years ago when I was 16 I started wearing hair extensions to bulk out my thin frizzy hair. The moment I felt instant results and the transformation it gave to my locks I was hooked! It made my hair appear longer, straighter, thicker and healthier. Everything I was trying to achieve with my own hair, but in the end I was causing irreparable damage.

My first set of hair extensions were professionally applied by a safe pair of hands, and are well maintained by myself which ensured no damage to my natural hair through the years. 12 years on I am still hooked to extensions. In fact many of my friends and family believe I am addicted to them. As the years have gone on I have realised I wasn’t alone in being addicted to them. Celebrities have an obsession with hair extensions as well, and I think you’d be surprised to find out how many actually wear them! Working with celebrities the last few years in my line of make-up artistry opened a huge door to me seeing that all female celebrities wore extensions for events, photo-shoots and to achieve instant results to thicker luscious hair that some hairdressers can’t achieve in a small amount of time on set. It was a great insight to me for getting my hands on the best quality hair and the best method for applying hair extensions to make my hair look natural as possible without any damage.

To keep my hair in the best condition I always have regular breaks from hair extensions , so after a few weeks break (Which I found very difficult) I decided to have my extensions in again using my regular hairdresser Seaane who always sews in my weaves extensions which I find gives me the best finish, using the best quality hair extensions on the market. After many years of buying cheap extensions I realised I have to spend that little bit extra to ensure the hair extensions don’t get tangled.

I wanted to share in a blog post today what hair extensions I use to my followers if you are deciding to have a hair makeover with extensions…

I always long for thick hair. My hairdresser advised to buy three bundles of Bespoke Brazilian Weft wave hair extensions from Trade Hair Hub which is ideal for a full head of hair. It’s completely natural and chemical free, unprocessed and pure, and in its healthiest state.

The loose wave hair style gives me a dynamic, soft look making my hair appear as natural as possible. It comes in straight, wavy and curly texture. The colour ranges from Jet black to light brown (all natural colours). It is silky, soft and does not tangle or shed easily and always blends well with other hair texture. When I was training in wig making this was a chosen type of hair for wig making. It’s super easy to style and maintain, as well as being straightened to achieve a silky straight texture, and will always revert back to its Wavy state once wet. My hairdresser has even coloured it to blonde over it in the past with no damage made, it can be used time and time again!

If sew in weaves is not for you, you can also attach clips, micro loop rings and glue for other extension types. Hair extensions will still allow your natural hair to grow. With tape hair extensions, there is no damage to your real hair, so it’s a good alternative to do while waiting for your natural hair to recover from a bad haircut, split ends, a bad dye job or whatever other problem arises.

Hair extensions can come across as unimportant for many women, however hair extensions really make a difference in my life, making me feel more confident about myself and makes me feel good when attending jobs, events or going out for a nice meal with the girls. I will continue to wear my extensions proud. Just like make-up , hair extensions can instantly give you a boost of confidence needed to face the day ahead.

Finally before I went for new hair extensions I applied my SOS organic oil treatment by Old Wives Tails (Only £13.99) which is a completely chemical free and 100% natural hair treatment making it very gentle and kind on my hair and scalp. By treating my hair prior to hair extensions it ensures the oil treatment strengthens, thickens and nourishes my natural hair making my hair the perfect natural remedy for dry, damaged, broken and brittle tresses. Made with certified organic ingredients only, paraben free, sulcate free, gluten free, vegan & vegetarian friendly with no animal testing.

Do you wear hair extensions? If not would you ever consider hair extensions?

Vampire Kiss!

This week I had the pleasure to host an Illamasqua event alongside make-up artist Patrick Baston at Illamasqua’s Selfridges Manchester Exchange Square counter where I demonstrated an Avant Garde’ look VS Paddy’s look ‘Ready to Wear’ look using Illamasqua products in similar colours. We went for red and black tones! After all Halloween will soon be here and I couldn’t wait to start designing looks based around  Halloween themes. The inspiration of my above look came from popular Vampire stories and I decided to name my model ‘Selene’. She is the moon goddess who technically isn’t a vampire, she is considered by legend to be the mother of all modern vampires. It’s her beautiful Ombre Vampire Kiss that turns her victims into vampires.

A huge thanks to Illamasqua and Paddy for inviting me along to take part in this evening and to everyone involved in making this event amazing, including my followers who attended and supported me.

Make-up Design: Karla Powell Make-up Artist

Model: Susie Powell

Hair: Seaane Chin-hoyte

Event Photography: Lauren Jo Kelly

Dress: Fabryan London

I am now excited to turn this look into a professional photo-shoot ready to be revealed and published this Halloween. Keep a look out for the images this October.
