Karla Powell Make-up Artist
Why I LOVE Pinterest!

For those that have never used Pinterest or heard of it- Pinterest is an online pinboard, a visual take on the social bookmarking site with content shared on Pinterest is driven by beautiful visuals which inspire me daily for my make-up work. Users can create as many pinboards as they’d like, based on their interests, hobbies or other categories. For example, you might create a pinboard called “Make-up Inspiration” and include images of make-up images that inspire you for your next upcoming photoshoots. People can follow you on your pinboard and even repin content that they like, which adds it to their own pinboard! Or why not make it private and create a ‘Secret’ board for just you and your team to see? I do this often rather than saving images I see from google adding them to my computer and trying to create a mood board on another platform. This does it all for me, saves time and I have the images all on one board for me to refer back to without losing them on my laptop.

I love Pinterest as it gives me the chance to share my make-up images and inspire others online and that’s why I have created a board on my Pinterest ‘Be Inspired By Karla Powell’ I want to inspire you all to repin from my board as I have so many different make-up artists and creatives in the industry tell me daily they are inspired by my make-up work, therefore I can inspire others to pin to their own boards of interest.
The social media site features everything from quotes to cars, mason jars to makeup tips and is quite possibly the best way to find makeup tips too. Hopefully you can all see why Pinterest is amazing for us creatives and why I use it to get organised for my upcoming photoshoots. Why not follow me over there or if you don’t have an account yet, sign up and start pinning by using this registration link.  You’ll automatically follow me and I’ll look forward to discovering some of your very own pins soon.

I am so excited to be invited to take part in the Pinterest UK launch campaign, as one of 300 bloggers who over 30 days are sharing their love of Pinterest with their readers, describing how they use it and how it inspires them I hope today’s blog post encourages you to use Pinterest more!
Finally… Tips to remember when using Pinterest:
*When you share something on Pinterest, each bookmark is called a pin.

*When you share someone else’s pin on Pinterest, it’s called a repin.

Who are Golden Rose Cosmetics?

Golden Rose Cosmetics is a worldwide brand since 1983 found in more than 80 countries all over the world with Golden Rose Cosmetics launching in Malta in April 2006 and it’s only been the last year I have noticed a few make-up artists blogging and talking about Golden Rose and to be honest you can’t find a lot of information on the brand or even much blog posts on google,  I guess they are now trying to push it with bloggers as the brand is fantastic and so affordable for us make-up artists building kits up so more people are talking about it.  I have to say when I tried the liquid eyeliners from the brand I was so impressed and in fact my Black & Black Style liner from Golden Rose is favoured among all my liquid eyeliners in my kit now.

‘Quality products with reasonable prices’ has become the company’s motto from Golden Cosmetics. High branded products with fantastic colours, glitter, sparkle as well as the latest technology of Vitamin E and SPF 15 within their products.

I have swatched all the above metallic eyeliners which are £6.99 each as well as Dipliner £6.29 & Style Liner in Black & Black £6.99 (my favourite) These liners are a rich, creamy metallic colours with a thin brush for application which glides flawlessly on the lash line leaving behind a nice metallic glint on dry down. All have excellent pigment which I find last for hours with cracking or flaking especially The Style Liner in Black & Black! I actually haven’t come across a black liquid eyeliner that deliveries like this one, I love how it’s jet blog and has a slight shine to it, and not to mention staying put for hours. I actually used a mixture of this eyeliner and my Lime Crime Uniliners Quill for my latest Pop Art Inspired make-up look which I will be demoing at IMATS in June J

The liners do go “wet” for a few moments so do beware during application as it will smudge easily if you don’t allow it to dry completely. Once dry it seems to hold strong on me without flaking, smudging, or fading away! I just find all these faultless!

Check out the rest of their range here: http://www.goldenroseuk.com/

Have you tried Golden Rose Cosmetics before?

Don’t be afraid to experiment…
One thing a lot of new makeup artists do is they stick to eyeshadows for eyes , lipstick for lips , blush for cheeks…No,no,no! There are no rules with makeup!
I love to use lipstick for cream blusher, eyeshadows for lipstick, blusher for lips and so fourth. The same rule applies with makeup brushes. Just because its labelled as ‘Lip Brush’ it doesn’t mean it’s a lip brush!
You need to experiment with products and brushes and do what feels right for you! You will feel more free as an artist and see yourself becoming more creative! In this picture I am using a face paint for lipstick and an eyeliner brush to apply! I like to break rules.

Illamasqua’s NEW Hydra Veil… What is it?

Unfortunately I couldn’t make it to Illamasqua’s NEW Paranormal Collection launch this month (the second launch I missed this year!!) However I have managed to read many different beauty bloggers/make-up artists reviews on the collection and scanned Twitter from the launch to keep up to date with the new collection which once again Illamasqua encourage self-express and with Paranormal it encourages individuals to unlock a new personal and creative journey with their new water resistant eye and face products, ultra violet nail varnishes and violet-hued two toned lipsticks which I will blog separately about. One thing from the collection I wanted to blog about today was their NEW Hydra Veil Rehydrating gel which everyone has been talking about.

Hydra Veil rehydrating gel has been known to ‘Create a radiant finish with Hydra Veil’s instantly rehydrating gel formula. It provides the optimal base for your make-up.’ Retailing at for £27 and comes in a 30ml tub. I have been testing this product every day since I got it and I have also used it this week on two models which made my Illamasqua Skin base go on effortlessly. So here is why I love it, its uses, how to apply and what Hydra Veil does:

*It comes with a little spoon for you to scoop the product out, much more hygienic than fingers which he smallest amount goes a very long way and looks professional when working on Models/Clients

*It completely stops foundation and makeup from creasing, fading, caking and separating. -It’s excellent if you have trouble with makeup creasing under your eyes or separating around your nose and works wonders with Illamasqua Skin base as It re-textures your skin, no matter how uneven it is. Foundation won’t cling to dry patches or blemished areas.

*It’s a jelly texture (reminds me of real jelly ) which can be used alongside your usual skincare routine, in between your serum and your moisturiser.

*It works because of tiny micro particles that can penetrate quicker and deeper into the skin to deliver the active ingredients deep into the skin cells. These then work to target visible signs of premature ageing: dark spots, lines and dull skin, delivering visibly younger, more luminous and ‘replumped’ skin.

* The Collagens within Hydra veil helps stimulate the production of elastin fibers to make the skin firmer and smooth.

*A water-based product, so use it with water-based foundations.

One thing which is like magic with Hydra Veil is when you chop up the jelly texture product and scoop what you need you need the most remarkable thing is that the rest of the product slowly reforms back into a smooth even state as you can see in the above pictures! Make-up is Science!

Have you tried Hydra Veil yet? If so what do you think? I actually think is going to become a cult products from Illamasqua!
