Visit to Superstar in Amsterdam!

Superstar paint is becoming a new brand to the UK where The Face Painting Shop introduced me to the range and the brand is now only distributed in the UK by them and I am proud to say Superstar are now my official Sponsor for my make-up jobs when I need to use the paints. Superstar is manufactured in Holland – Oosterhout where I was lucky enough to be invited to the factory with The Face Painting Shop yesterday to meet the owner Marco Van Leenep. It was a chance to learn more about the brand, meet the people behind the brand and to see how Superstar paints are made- which like when I went to Kryolan’s factory last year I was truly fascinated of the effort goes into making these paints.

I have been using face paints since I started make-up and they are great for creative make-up and even beauty make-up too! I have had lots of years working with face paints now and I have finally mastered how to get the right consistency when using them for body painting work all the way to beauty work. If you haven’t tried water/cream Superstar paints before I suggest buying a few primary colours and experimenting. I have even used the paints to create some of my lip art looks!

Superstar actually started out as a bakery in the 1920s then after the Second World War the company decided to produce Make-up! Superstar’s oldest employee is 71years old with the rest of the staff working there for over 18 years + This was very obvious in the work space with an amazing family business atmosphere, you could feel the passion behind their work towards the brand just by meeting and seeing them work and in my eyes this helps to make the brand who they are and to keep up a high standard. We got told by some of the staff they can make up to 1500 + Superstar paints between two of them in a day… And yes all handmade! Madness.

Superstar is a fantastic paint that is so gentle on the skin, is great in the heat, and comes in a variety of vibrant colours and a great price to match too! Superstar also sell their own eyelashes, contact lenses, false nails and fake facial hair which we watched them making wigs.

I feel more of a connection towards Superstar now and I am really grateful and appreciate the opportunities I have with such wonderful brands like this experience. A huge thank you to Marco from Superstar and Nat at The face Painting Shop for this wonderful inspiring day.  Superstar products can be purchased from www.thefacepaintingshop.com

Did You Know this is Body Painting?
Yes it is! When I started to really get into make-up I wanted to take my skills to a new level and create art not just on the face but all over the body. After being inspired by Mark Reid ( a famous body painter who paints amazing jeans) I asked my EX boyfriend if he would let me body paint him- So thanks to him I created this illusion of him wearing a blue shirt, which if you look very closely you will see his armpit hair he he! I should have shaved it to make the illusion look more real!

Body Paint Clothing gives a whole new meaning to the term, “wearing your birthday suit”. Body paint can look extremely real when done by a professional. At many make-up conventions I have seen some where you don’t even notice they are nude until u come up to take a closer look!

Anyone wanting to get into Body Painting I suggest you spend time doing some research on the skill and even read books, watch DVDs, attend private courses and YouTube videos are also a great learning tool. Body painting is an art which can express someone from being Bold, Bizarre, Weird, and Sexy. You can choose to do nude body painting or just the face. Nude is bold, but for those models who wish to keep their clothes on, face painting itself can be just as creative.

Body painting is not like a permanent tattoo as it can be washed of easily with water. Painting your shoulders, thighs or backs can be sexy as well as modest. Many women prefer to go for nude body painting as men like to hide those bits!  But you should think wisely about painting a whole body as it may take hours to perfectly paint a body, the shirt on my ex took me over 3 hours! Body painting is not just painting on nude bodies or face but it’s an expression of art so why not have a go at it?

So the best way to get into body painting is to firstly get inspired! Here I have put links to amazing inspiring body painters that I always look up to. Do check out their work, promise you will LOVE! Any questions on body paints do get in touch!

My Top Three Body Painters:

·       Carolyn Cowan- Uses textures and real life sources to create  wonderful body  painting art.
·       Mark Reid- Who paints amazing Jeans!
 ·       Joanna Gair- Body painting to the stars! Her body paintings have been featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue from 1999 to the 2011 edition. She is considered the world’s leading trompe-l’œil body painter and make-up artist, and she became famous with a Vanity Fair Demi’s Birthday Suit cover of Demi Moore in a body painting in 1992. Her work is SOOOO Mind blowing!
