Perfect Skin with Kryolan’s NEW Highlighter- Illusion.
Highlighters in my make-up kit are my key products to change any beauty looks. If of course applied correctly, it gives you that glowing look where people can’t place what’s different, just that you look amazing in life and on camera.
When you’re choosing a highlighter you have to think about skin tone; sallow skin, pink toned highlighters are going to stick out, pale skin pink tones are perfect. The goal when applying highlighter is to get a reflective dewy look that makes you look like you have youthful, healthy skin. If the product you are using gives your skin a slight sheen you’ve got it right, if you look covered in glitter try again.
There are three main areas you should apply highlighter: the cheekbones and temples, the eyes, and the Cupid’s bow. If you apply your foundation with your favourite foundation brush, I always use that same brush to apply highlighter on the cheekbones. The product remaining on your brush will help with the blending process. I have many different highlighting products in kit- from cream, powder and liquid forma, and many from Kryolan such as Glamour Glow, Glamour Sparks and Shimmering Event Foundation where I sometimes mix in with my Illamasqua Skin base for an all over dewy skin effect on fashion photo-shoots.
Illusion, is a lightweight and versatile gloss highlighting cream in a golden shade tone suiting most skin tones, which has a long-lasting smooth finish with a supple non- greasy or oily residue finish. Illusion in Velvet gives a beautiful luminous glow without the skin looking shiny when photographed. Illusion can be easily applied and blended onto the skin using a brush, fingers or a sponge.
Illusion in shade Velvet, £15.75 can be purchased at Kryolan’s London store, Charles Fox, Covent Garden, and other outlets across the UK. Please visit www.kryolan.com for stockist details.
Many more colours will be available soon.
Which is your favourite highlighter in your make-up kit?
As a make-up artist I am always looking for products that are long lasting, pigmented and work well in photography lighting. With Kryolan’s NEW lip stains it offers true staying power in a range of eight shades. Unfortunately I only got hold of two shades but after testing them I most certainly need them all in my make-up kit now.
The two shades I have are the colour you see them in the lip gloss tube! Very intense and pigmented. As soon as you apply the lipstick it has a strong matte colour coverage that doesn’t fade or smudge until you choose to remove it or if you decide to eat and drink loads, but most of the time I will apply lipstick on my models last and after they eaten. I do always ensure I have straws handy so the models can drink on set without ruining my make-up work too. The lip stain colour does dry quickly onto lips and the finish is very similar to Lime Crimes famous Velvetines! Maybe they were inspired by them?
Kryolan Lip Stain, complete with applicator brush, has been specifically developed by chemists in Kryolan’s labs to offer powerful water resistance, and endure the longest, most rigorous wear - whilst being smooth to apply and comfortable to wear. It also contains UV-B filters, so ideal for long-lasting outdoor wear or photoshoots.
Kryolan Lip Stain retails at 13.95 and Lipstick Sheer at 16.35. They are available to buy from Kryolan’s London store: Charles Fox, Covent Garden, and other outlets across the UK. Please visit www.kryolan.com for stockist details.
Many of you will know I am a big fan of Kryolan so anything new and exciting they bring out I am straight their testing the products, and like always they never disappoint me. Their newest product Lip N’ Cheek is a multi-purpose product available in 11 shades, from beautiful nudes to bolder hues, they all create a soft subtle hint of colour to the cheeks, lips and even eyes! It is also water resistant, making it ideal for hot days, oilier skin and for waterproof locations when working on set.
Packaged similar to a lip gloss, with an angled applicator for ease of use, you get 10ml of product in each tube which is packaged in their new design and logo- ‘Make-up is a science’. The formula is smooth enough to easily blend using fingers onto the cheek area, yet applies precisely to instantly stain the lip area, I also love to use my Syntho brushes from Crownbrush to apply for a smooth even application, however you only really need to use your fingers as it blends effortlessly without any tools.
My favourite shade out of all these three has to be Lotus! It’s such a beautiful pink girly shade which I think will be one of their best sellers as it pretty much matches most skin tones.

Charles Fox have recently worked on their Covent Garden London Store In line with their company rebranding, “Make-up Is A Science” with Kryolan Official.
The store has undertaken an extensive refurbishment to improve their service and facilities, along with innovative products, for all make-up artists and beauty lovers. I have been a huge fan of Charles Fox and Kryolan for many years and is my one stop to purchase all my professional brands- especially Kryolan, so I was super excited to see the new store look so beautiful and I wanted to share it to my followers!
Due to me recently working away in Egypt on a music video with Violina who have collaborated with Birgit Oigemeel on the music video which was filmed on luxury yacht along the Red Sea Egypt- so this involved lots of heat, water, sweat and many scenes being filmed in and out of the sea. So lucky for me after getting lots of tips of other well-known make-up artists such as Jos Brands and from The Charles Fox team on ‘how to’ to use makeup underwater with the right brands.
*Keep the make-up strong & bright
*Keep everything well defined
*Contouring and highlighting
*If using false lashes make sure they are natural hair
Kryolan Dermacolor DC Camouflage Cream Palettes– which comes in 24 colours in order to contour highlight and match the models skin tones, it’s a highly pigmented foundation which needs to be activated to blend effortless on the skin, I used Kryolan NEW make-up blend and then fixed using Derma Color Fixing Powder and Fixing Spray it will be waterproof and protects the skin against damaging UV radiation. DC Camouflage could last even under extreme conditions like swimming, heat and physical strain. Dermacolor Camouflage Cream is available in an extensive range of shades and those are intermixable which gives the make-up a natural appearance when applied correctly.
My favorite brand and palettes to use is Kryolan and three palettes I did everything I needed out in Egypt were the Metallique metallic pigments, Shimmering Vision palette, Interferenz grease paint paletteand the Neat Kit lipstick setand all these are excellent for layering up and can all be used on eyes, cheeks and lips, It stays on and gives excellent colour payoff- Any oil based products won’t move underwater. If you want to use Mascara then do use a waterproof one, however from experience this has been known to smudge so you can eyelash tint before the shoot. Finally a great eyeliner to try for underwater shoot is Make-up Forever AQUA LINER- High Precision Waterproof Eyeliner. Also keep with natural hair false lashes. Sometimes water on synthetic lashes will change the shape of the lashes (think about when your eyes water/cry- Have your false lashes ever changed shape? If you experienced that , then you will know why to keep with natural hair)
Finally to remove greasepaint/waterproof makeup you will need to use and oil based remover to break down and gently dissolve the makeup. I always use Kryolan’s Hydro Makeup remover oil. It is hydrophilic cleansing oil which will remove all cream and grease make-up. Massage into the skin and rinse with warm water, the model can do this in the shower.
Kryolan Official is now based in London Covent Garden in Charles H Fox where you can purchase Kryolan products. *Inspired by Nicola Johnson Waterproof Make-up experience.

Wolfram Langer, the son of Kryolan’s founder Arnold Langer and managing director of the company at the Kryolan Launch- London
The new positioning has been crafted to draw on Kryolan’s rich, independent heritage and experience in innovating for make-up artists since the 1920s - when its founder, Arnold Langer, a committed chemistry student heavily influenced by 1920s Berlin’s artistic expression, combined his passion for theatre and science to create a revolutionary make-up brand - while demonstrating to professionals across the board today, that Kryolan not only understands the everyday needs of the make-up artist, but continues to innovate to be the first to add ground breaking products make-up artists kitbags.
Thanks to Arnold’s approach to make-up manufacturing back in the ‘20s, and its team of highly-skilled technicians that work in its Berlin-based labs today, Kryolan has the strength to pioneer technical breakthroughs and deliver an unprecedented array of formulas, colours and textures.
Kryolan, Make-up Is A Science, has now new packaging, website (early November), PR & advertising campaign, and brand visuals – all to be launched in Autumn 2012 - that feature make-up looks for fashion, film, TV and theatre, all shot against a scientific backdrop – designed to highlight Kryolan’s unique scientific background and approach to manufacturing which we seen these make-up looks come to life!
“But we also know that we have to remain up-to-date with our image so make-up-artists understand that we are not an old-fashioned brand making staple products; we are exciting. Our approach is fresh and our make-up is fashion-forward, advanced and different. Wolfram Langer, the son of Kryolan’s founder Arnold Langer.
“We are also an independently family-owned business. This gives us the freedom and the power to listen to the industry and swiftly deliver what no other manufacturer can. Each of our products are designed and made by technicians at our Berlin headquarters, who share the family’s passion, know-how and desire to make outstanding items of make-up that deliver outstanding results.”
