Illamasqua’s New Collection ‘Once’…

It was such a pleasure meeting up with the Illamasqua PR girls & other beauty bloggers a few weeks ago for afternoon tea in London. It was a chance to be introduced to the new Once collection over tea and scones as well as having a chance to ask questions about the new collection, future collections and what products Illamasqua will be keeping in the near future and what will be discontinuing.Thankfully they informed me they will always have their amazing Skin bases in their range, my favourite foundation in my kit!

On Friday, Illamasqua released the NEW collection called Once online.

"Once is the beauty of the burnished, eroded and erudite. A palette inspired by the gentle and exquisite point when a flower starts to fade and becomes impossibly beautiful in its complex decline. Combined with the subtle opulence of faded gilt layers that reveal themselves the more you blend and search. She is an incandescent moment, a poem alive and a light within a pallet of decaying decadence." Alex Box, Creative Director for Illamasqua

What’s in the NEW Once Collection?

  • Three shades of NEW Vintage Metallix Eye Shadow, £16.50 each (Courtier - dusky rose, Embellish - rich cocoa, Bibelot - rustic golden teal)

A long-lasting, metallic cream-gel with a smudge-resistant finish.

A soft neutral pink.

  • Two new shades of Sheer Gloss, £16.50 each (Exquisite - pink oyster, Opulent - rainbow beige)

Best worn over the top of bold lipsticks for a multi-tonal look.

A gorgeous soft, dusky antique teal green filled with gold and pink flakes giving it a multi-dimensional look

Have you treated yourself this weekend to the NEW Once Collection?

IMATS 2014…

When I think back to IMATS London last weekend I am still lost for words and so overwhelmed by all the support from everyone.

I thank each and every one of you that came and visited me on the Temptu stand where I was demonstrating the first look from my new ‘Human Emotion’ Series. The series will be based on creative looks inspired by different emotions we as people encounter. The look I demonstrated at IMATS is the ‘Envy’ emotion, which has took many months of planning & preparation and hard work from my amazing team! I can’t wait to create the look again for professional images to add to my portfolio.

I also want to thank my followers who came to my presentation on the Sunday. I thought I would never have the chance to appear as a speaker at IMATS, so to be asked this year I felt so honoured. I also overcame my fear of being on stage that day (I was a nervous wreck!). However, after seeing many familiar faces and having such amazing support I soon forgot about the nerves and it was the best feeling in the world having the chance to share my tips, tricks and experiences.

I love make up so much so its such a privilege to be able to work and demonstrate there surrounded by such talent and inspirational people. IMATS 2014 weekend was incredible and I love going as an make-up artist and a fan! My only issue is the weekend goes way too fast, roll on next year! The dream now is to attend all the IMATS around the world!

How was IMATS 2014 for you?

Many thanks to:

Magnum 25th Birthday

For all pleasure seekers & those that love Magnums, it’s time to celebrate! Magnum are celebrating their 25th Birthday!

How will you be celebrating? Will you be indulging in your favourite Magnum Ice-Cream? Or by looking at the images from the Birthday campaign shoot I was fortunate enough to do the make-up for? Either way I am sure you will be visiting your local shop to pick up your favourite Magnum’s very soon! ;)
Classic Chocolate Magnum Ice-Cream provided inspiration for this eye catching contrasting look. Using creamy white & black tones in a classic winged eyeliner look, matte defined skin for soft sculpting, finished perfectly with strong glossy white and dark chocolate lips that look good enough to eat!
There were many creations inspired by the Classic, Almond and White chocolate Ice-Creams.  So keep your ice cream loving eyes out for more images! During the next few months Magnum and I have been posting on social media, revealing more chocolate inspired creations! There will also be plenty more behind the scenes footage and pictures coming your way! As well as another shoot we did last month to celebrate their silver anniversary ;)
Which is your favourite Magnum Ice-Cream?

This Valentines, Illamasqua are celebrating with their new, special collection called I’m The One!” For personal reasons this is a collection I will most certainly never forget.

I had the most amazing opportunity to be part of this Valentine’s campaign photo-shoot by assisting Illamasqua’s legendary creative director Alex Box. This amazing opportunity was the prize for winning the Distinction in Make-up Artistry Award last October.
To work with Alex Box was a dream come true, therefore this mini collection will always have a very special place in my heart. You can imagine the excitement when the collection arrived in the post last week!

I love the shimmer infused in the pigment which makes those lips pop instantly! Try layering ‘Touch’ on top of Maneater lipstick included in this collection for a an extra powerful red lip this Valentines.

An existing Nail Polish (Shade: Throb) £14.50
A perfect cherry red shade, which will be perfect for your Valentines date! The polish has cool undertones and applies evenly in one stroke. The pigmentation is excellent with minimal drying time.

Re-creating my Rise of The Golden Princess Make-up Look at Clothes Show Live 2013

From Luke Woodford’s popular Abandoned fashion Series we created the Rise of The Golden Princess shoot, which proved to be very popular amongst our followers, which then lead to it being front cover of Urban Coco Magazine’s new Issue 13 special edition being sold at Clothes Show Live 2013. This is one of my favourite make-up looks I have created this year and it was a pleasure to be asked from Laura who owns the magazine to re-create the front cover look live at the Clothes Show.

To see my make-up work front cover on the stand, demonstrate the look and  to have the chance to sell my Karla Charts was an over whelming feeling where I couldn’t help but feel so proud what I have achieved this year. This was a great end to 2013 and I can’t wait to get even more creative in 2014.

Thanks to my amazing team for all their help on the day and to Arjan B for loaning me the most beautiful gold dress to go with my design on the day.

Back to Roots Winning Illamasqua Make-up & Hair Look(Edited & Un-seen picture)

I finally got hold of some more pictures of my Illamasqua Distinction in Make-up Artistry Awards pictures took on the day of the competition. High Def Retouching kindly retouched them for me so I can place them in my professional portfolio and to have the images printed to put on canvases. Yesterday I also did a photoshoot with Luke Woodford where I re-created the look but this time in some woods with dress designer Joanne Fleming. This means I can now have a full editorial of studio shots and location shots to be published in a magazine. I am so excited. Pictures will be released around Halloween time.

Vote For Me to WIN The Illamasqua Distinction in Make-up Artistry Awards 2013!

To enter the Illamasqua Distinction in Make-up Artistry awards you have to fall under a category of Working Professional Make-up Artist, Make-up Student or a Non-Professional (self-taught artist!) You enter in two make-up looks which I did then you get picked by the judges to make it to the live finals. Much to my relief I got told three weeks ago I made it to the finals competing against three other professional make-up artists in my category having the chance to win a day assisting Illamasqua Creative Director Alex Box and a £2,000 cash prize & £250 (RRP) worth of Illamasqua make-up!

We had 1 hour to create the make-up transformation in the Princess Ann Theatre –BAFTA LONDON in front of a live audience where my amazing friends and loved ones supported me as well as some of my amazing fans, which was scored by the Floor Judges (David and Spob). Followed by a 5 min presentation to the Curtain Judges! Yes the main people such as Alex Box, Julian Kynaston before moving onto the photography set to take an un touched image of my work for LIVE Facebook votes.

We then had 5 minutes to present my model Sara Grabek and make-up transformation to the Curtain Judges. The contestants are allowed a mood board to help answer any questions the judges may have.

All judges will have 30 minutes after each category has presented to deliberate. As a group the judges will need to agree the amount of points given to each contestant using the marking criteria so this made up 90% of my votes!  This has now turned into a percentage to go along with the public vote on Illamasqua’s Facebook page and that’s where I need your 10% vote if you love my look I have created. The closing date being the 14th October 2013.

Finally one thing you have all been asking me. What was the theme? Here is what I was given to help me create my make-up transformation….

'Show Us the Future'

What’s your view of make-up in the future? What will change and what will remain?

What I see in the future…

The name of my make-up and hair look was ‘Back to Roots’. In the future I believe woman will appreciate natural beauty more and stop elaborating themselves with cosmetic surgery and go back to roots where nature and pure beauty begun and be inspired by nature around them rather than getting distracted by other around them. Today I believe we take care of ourselves so much more than we ever have in history, such as eating well, exercising and we want to know what is in our products, food and skin care and finally for the first time Organic products in the beauty industry are blooming quickly.

We will have pale skin as we continue to protect our skin more from UV Rays. Our eyes will adapt to protect us from stronger harmful UV rays as the O-zone layer gets stronger and we will start to use the most purest organic products in our make-up, hair and skin care. Origins being one of my main inspirations for this look demonstrate already in their range going back to roots using Anogeissus - a sacred tree that is deeply integrated into African culture as an extract in their skin care for a natural wound healer and antimicrobial. Their range of Plantiscription contains potent plants and bark extracts to wash away dirt, makeup and impurities. This is where the inspiration from the twig hair and twig nails came from.

Woman will be more daring with hair and nails too being inspired by nature around them such as birds, trees, leaves and the colours of nature.

What will remain?

Red Lips! Red lips have fascinated men and women alike since 3,000 BCE. A bold look that demands attention, red lipstick has been advocated by the world’s most powerful women! And in the beginning, the ingredients used to create this were red dye taken from seaweed, crushed precious jewels and even Cleopatra, desiring a deeper red used crushed carmine beetles and ants. Queen Elizabeth used a simpler recipe of beeswax and plant derived red dye and my Nan from the 1940s being her only luxury rationed beauty item could only wear red lipstick! So to me in the future red lips will continue to be a timeless beauty look even in 1000s of years to come.

Finally to bring this whole make-up and hair design together in my crazy mind I took inspiration from David McKean. An English illustrator, photographer, comic book artist, graphic designer, filmmaker and musician. His work incorporates drawings, paintings, photography and digital art and sculpture. His work from his Persistence of Vision illustrations helped me achieve this look at the Illamasqua competition! It brought my whole concept together and helped me tell my story to the judges.

“She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.”

I am overwhelmingly grateful to have the chance to show my skills to the judges at Illamasqua Saturday & to have amazing support from my followers hit me how far I have come by believing in myself & my dreams

And, for me, this weekend means this year was a success. And for that, I am thankful. Everyone is a winner in my eyes from my category & I wish them all the luck in the world. I am just happy to have had that opportunity. Thank you everyone.
